Letterpress Wedding: Lovebirds

Not long until the lovely Nicole and Emir tie the knot – and now I can show you their fabulous wedding invitations!

For the invitation suite, we continued with the lovebird theme from their save-the-dates, this time focusing in their wedding colors – turquoise ink, sage outer envelopes, and moss-green response envelopes for a little added contrast…

Letterpress rehearsal invitations: lowcountry style

Ryan and Tara were married last weekend in Charleston, South Carolina (the mere mention of that city makes me envious!) and these are the invitations I designed and printed for their rehearsal dinner.

The picture above (printed on lightly textured Italian card) shows the invitation guests received, but I played with a couple of different stocks during the printing process – a heavyweight cotton stock and a brown kraft.   The results (below) show how changing the card stock or even just switching envelope colours can produce very different looks.

And here’s a little on-the-press shot, right before the second colour was printed.

Cajun country invitations

A rustic look for this Cajun country 50th birthday party invitation.  Letterpress was perfect for the text treatment.

I wish I was going!

Letterpress wedding : Costa Rica

Beautiful!  Katie and Paul will marry in a summer ceremony in stunning Costa Rica, so they wanted their letterpress invitations to reflect the elegance of their wedding as well as the relaxed tropical atmosphere of their seaside location.

I created a custom design in emerald green, coral and cornflower blue, featuring silhouettes of a Costa Rican hummingbird and the beautiful Guaria Morada, which is the Costa Rican national flower.

The three shades of hand-mixed ink were printed using magnesium plates on super-thick 100% cotton card, and the invitation suite was accented with shimmery copper envelopes.

Letterpress Wedding : The Islands

Romantic! Brooke and John are tying the knot in Hawaii, with a small and sweet ceremony – and when they get home they’ll celebrate with family and friends at a Texas-sized wedding reception. The best of both worlds!

With wedding colours of burnt orange and cream, Brooke and John wanted elegant custom invitations subtly reflecting a Hawaiian theme. The hibiscus flowers were printed with cream ink on rich cream cotton paper to create an understated island image. The flowers were  accented beautifully with antique scrollwork in burnt orange and text in chocolate brown.

The same colour palette was used to print the response cards, and copper envelopes added an eye-catching finishing touch to this luxurious invitation suite.

On the press : Paris summer wedding invitations

Here’s a walk through the process of printing the letterpress invitation suite for Kate and David’s summer wedding in Paris…

The picture above shows the magnesium plate for the scrollwork. And below is the black-and-white proof I used while setting up the job on the press and checking measurements and alignment.

The invitations go through the press for the first time – scrollwork in soft grey.

Next, the invitation text in mint-green ink. A second magnesium plate, new makeready, and another trip through the press.

While the mint ink was still on the press I set up and printed the green scrollwork for the response cards.

I printed grey text on the response cards…

…and more grey for the outer envelopes. In the picture below, I’m using my trusty AlignMate to make sure the return address is straight.

And in case you forgot what the end product looks like….

The end!  Much happiness.

Letterpress Wedding: Summer in Paris

Kate and David live in Paris – so at any moment they can step outside and be in one of the world’s most romantic cities.  Their wedding day (just so we can all swoon a little) will include a Montmartre restaurant, the Eiffel Tower, and a river cruise down the Seine.

With a palette of mint green, soft grey and fuchsia, Kate and David wanted their invitations to capture that Paris magic…

I created an invitation suite with an antique Parisian flavour (Kate is a lover of all things vintage). The design draws upon the incredible and distinctive work of the 19th-Century Parisian typographers and ornament artists. This style of embellishment and contrasting classic typefaces was used on all kinds of printed pieces – invitations to grand balls, concert tickets, cards for jewellers, and even letterheads.

The mint and grey inks are letterpress printed on thick cotton card (it takes a beautiful impression) and accented by envelopes in fuchsia and shimmery silver.

A wedding like this… who could say no?
